On Being Righteous

I found a green flashlight on the ground,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
I pressed, sure enough, the light came on,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
Mike and Jane said “this is your lucky day;
Don’t tell your mom and you’ll be okay.”
Should I keep the flashlight?
Should I just make it mine?

I found a cool frisbee in the park,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
It is neon blue, glows in the dark,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
Mike and Jane said “this is your lucky day;

Should I keep the frisbee? Should I just make it mine?

But we are not “finders keepers” here,
No way! No way!
We choose to do what is right whatever friends would say.
Anything not ours we will never keep;
To our conscience daily we’ll take heed.
